The first thing that most people will recall with this label is the life of homeless Chris Gardner, struggling with his 5-year old son, journeying from his homeless days to being a millionaire. The renowned novel and movie featuring the life of Chris Paul Gardner, the American businessman, and motivational speaker is something that remains intricate in your mind for so long. It’s one of the masterpieces, one of its kind.
The life of the American stockbroker is a guide to many. How to pursue long term happiness rather than running for small pleasures. His life teaches us how contemplation and practice turn knowledge into wisdom, as wisdom is the essence of ‘happyness’. Being a huge fan of this movie I will look for the deliberate use of the misspelled term ‘happyness’.
WHAT IS HAPPYNESS?
Happiness is a state of mind where we feel comfortable, confident, important and useful among people. Happiness is not something you get to see in some possessions you have. When I was around ten I was a huge fan of the hot wheels collections. Whenever I got a promise from my mom for a new collection of these amazing cars I didn’t sleep at night. I pondered upon the thoughts on what I shall do when I have them in my hand. The day comes and now I have them. I would do all the things I planned to do in my dreams. I was happy. But the happiness sustained for not more than a week. Then what, I had a new wish and the trail continues. This was my complete childhood. As I grew the habit accompanied me, the difference is, needs are now somewhat different. Since then, every time I noticed that happiness was so temporary. Or was this happiness at all? Indeed happiness is not absolute. You don’t have some implicit reference from where you would measure the ‘bulk’ of happiness.

SCIENCE VERSUS CONVICTION
Pursuing happiness can have a positive as well as negative side depending on what happiness are you chasing. People generally try to boost the generation of ‘dopamine’. Dopamine is a brain chemical that is a reward for doing something like completing a task or buying something you like, maybe your dream car, bike or some gadget. However, this dopamine is secreted in a limit and you are no longer happy for the same thing after some time. This is the science behind the short term happiness. Chasing long term happiness is worth a goal.
THE HAPPYNESS WITHIN YOU!
There is inner happiness or I may call it nuclear happiness, within everyone. But it is covered by layers of negative thoughts, fears, and anxieties. This inner happiness appears when thoughts and worries calm down.
Most people mistake happiness with pleasure. Pleasure is much of short term stuff, that makes us feel good for time being. Pleasure is picked up by our senses while happiness is within us, hidden somewhere. The art of living is finding happiness within. Happiness occurs when some ambition is fulfilled, some burden is released, or when assured love of someone dear to us, or maybe getting some complement. These things gently erode the anxiety, negativity, stress and leave us with that buried happiness.
RIDE YOUR MIND
Letting go is not always easy. Try it though. Maybe looking back someday, you’ll know it was absolutely worth it. Some LET GOES for happiness are:
GRUDGE
Having grudge against someone will only accumulate distress and will bury your happiness deep inside. Grudges create hatred, hatred creates mental stress, and increased levels of stress cause illness.
PRIDE
Pride is an idolatry of self. It makes you self centered and self-worshiping. Pride is destined to make you sad and you are finally left in despair. Be proud of your good deeds but never get too self-absorbed and let pride suck away happiness from your life.
EXPECTING FROM OTHER
Living a happy life is an art and is not practiced by a majority of the people. We live in a society, we walk, we talk, we eat how the society wants us to. We grew up here, gained senses in this world and so we continue to follow its rules. But that’s not the shot. Being in the society our expectancy from people who are important to us, people we like, people we admire builds up. And if someday our expectancy is not full-filled by them, knowingly or unknowingly, it makes us feel dejected. So find ways to make yourself cheerful, care for yourself, give time to yourself in a way you want, no matter if it fits good in this disciplined society.

INSECURITY
Being low at confidence will make you feel inferior to others. Even watching someone gag at you will put you in despair. Don’t be a host to insecurity, it will eat up your happiness.
MALIGNANT PEOPLE
Choose your friends wisely. They have a major role in your life. At last, they are the one who cast your day with happiness and joy. It sometimes happens that we attach to some people who are toxic to us. Recognize these toxic people as early as possible and invest your energy on people who really matter.

Don’t let the world hold your leash. Be yourself. Be your own rider.
Earning righteous people and finding obscure happiness is the most difficult and the most beautiful thing in life. Happiness will bring in you, the zeal to live and this sixty to eighty years of life which is certainly long enough will feel a short span that flew past swiftly.
